Romania – Here you are

Romania is a pretty big country — so here’s the key takeaway:

Don’t land too far from Alba Iulia, located in Alba County, Transylvania.

The most convenient airports are:

From either one, it’s an easy and scenic drive to Alba Iulia — hills, villages, vineyards, and that “holiday mode activated” feeling.

What to do while you're here

Whether you’re here just for the wedding or turning it into a mini holiday, here are a few ideas, depending on how much time you have.

If you have 1 day

Perfect if you arrive the day before or leave the day after

  • Explore Alba Carolina Citadel (museums, gardens, changing of the guard)
  • Coffee or aperitif inside the fortress walls
  • Dinner in the old town — simple, local, and good
If you have 2 days

A relaxed rhythm, no rushing

  • Day 1: Alba Iulia citadel + terraces + museums
  • Day 2: Short drive to Sibiu, a beautifully preserved medieval city with colourful houses and lively squares
If you have 4 days (or more)

Now you’re doing it right.

  • Alba Iulia & Sibiu
  • Sighișoara, a charming medieval citadel (and UNESCO site)
  • The Apuseni Mountains for nature, caves and fresh air
  • Optional: castles, countryside roads, slow lunches

Or… just let Transylvania surprise you.

GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE YOU COME

A few practical notes to make your trip smoother:

Language:
Romanian is the local language. English is widely spoken, especially by younger people.
Money:
Local currency is the Romanian Leu (RON). Cards are accepted almost everywhere; cash is still useful for small places.
Weather:
August is warm and sunny. Expect 25–35°C during the day. Light layers recommended for the evening.
Electricity & plugs:
European standard plugs (Type C / F). Same as most of continental Europe.
Timing:
Things start a bit later than in Northern Europe — and dinners can stretch. Which, honestly, works well for weddings.

Gifts

Your presence at our wedding already means a lot to us — especially knowing that many of you are travelling to be there.

We truly don’t expect anything more.

That said, for those who are familiar with Romanian weddings, there is a tradition of offering a small contribution in the form of an envelope on the day.

If you feel like following that tradition, it will most likely go towards something very romantic… like construction materials to finally finish renovating our house.

If it’s easier for you, a bank transfer is also absolutely fine — we’ll share the details on request.

But really, the most important thing for us is simply having you there.
